November 23 2021
We are delighted to bring you this video testimonial from internationally renowned award-winning film director, Andrew Lau from Hong Kong, SAR.
ONE OF THE MOST ACCLAIMED DIRECTORS BASED IN HONG KONG, SAR
Hong Kong has an illustrious history as the third largest film producing industry in the world after the USA and India and was the second largest exporter for many decades. The Chinese language movies produced in this small city provided entertainment and a sense of home in their native language for the Chinese diaspora across the globe. Hong Kong films, although mostly made with a lower budget than Hollywood movies, have garnered a cult following internationally and have even provided influence for some movies from the West, most notably kung-fu action films.
Andrew is one of the most acclaimed directors based in Hong Kong, and his works have become Chinese language film classics, including the police thriller trilogy, Infernal Affairs. The Oscar-winning movie, The Departed, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon was a remake of it.
AN OEUVRE REFLECTING DEVELOPMENTS IN CINEMA AUDIO TECHNOLOGIES
Andrew first started in the industry in 1981 as a cinematographer, but it’s not widely known that he is passionate about audio too; his oeuvre reflects developments in cinema audio technologies- the first Hong Kong films mixed in Dolby Surround 7.1, Dolby Atmos, and DTS:X were all Andrew’s movies. He was also one of the very first in 2017 to direct a Chinese-language movie for Dolby Cinema, combining Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for the theatrical version of a movie.
INSIGHTS FROM THE EXPERIENCE THAT STORMAUDIO BRINGS
In the interview, Andrew reveals more about how sound has always been an important part of his life, and how it plays a huge role in his movies. Having installed a StormAudio flagship ISP MK2 Analog 32 processor together with two PA 16 amplifiers in a dedicated room in his project office, Andrew shares some insight from the experience that StormAudio brings for him.
