A Reference-Level Private Cinema in Thailand, Engineered for Precision
When Theater House, a Thailand-based specialist with over 30 years of experience, was approached for this project in Phang Nga, the ambition was clear from the start: create a no-compromise private cinema delivering reference-level performance, tailored to a highly demanding client.
Unlike many residential projects, this one began with a client who had already done extensive research. After discovering Theater House through online sources and exploring their portfolio, he was convinced by their ability to handle complex, high-performance systems. The brief was straightforward yet ambitious: achieve precise imaging, powerful but controlled bass and long-term system flexibility.
As the project evolved, so did its scope. The number of speakers increased, bass management became more sophisticated and the level of tuning required deepened significantly. Throughout the process, Theater House maintained a clear focus: every decision had to serve performance, not complexity.
Designing Around Constraints
One of the main challenges emerged early in the process. The cinema was located in a building with shared walls, raising concerns about sound leakage and potential disturbance to neighboring spaces. Addressing this required a carefully engineered sound isolation strategy, including additional structural treatments and dedicated soundproofing solutions.
Further complexity arose during construction. Initial plans were based on provided measurements, but once on-site, the team discovered that the ceiling height was significantly higher than expected—by nearly 40 cm. This required rapid adaptation, with adjustments to both structural and interior elements to preserve the integrity of the design.
Despite these challenges, the core objective remained unchanged: deliver a seamless, high-performance cinema experience.
A High-Channel-Count System Built for Immersion
At the heart of the room is a highly ambitious speaker configuration, designed to fully immerse the listener in a precise and balanced sound field. The system combines Perlisten Audio speakers across all channels, including S7i LCRs, S7i surrounds, and S3ic height channels, supported by an impressive low-frequency array featuring one Ascendo 32″ subwoofer alongside multiple Perlisten subwoofers.
This extensive setup is driven by a StormAudio Elite 32 Analog processor, paired with StormAudio PA 8 Ultra amplifiers. The system is completed with a JVC DLA-NZ900 projector and a 200-inch acoustically transparent woven screen, delivering a visual experience that matches the scale and precision of the audio system. Content is provided via a Zappiti Signature player.
The entire system was designed around a single primary listening position, allowing for an extremely focused and optimized performance.
Why StormAudio
With such a high number of channels and a complex speaker layout, selecting the right processor was critical.
For Theater House, StormAudio stood out for its ability to handle large-scale systems without compromising on precision or stability. Their extensive hands-on experience with multiple pre-processor brands made the choice clear.
“On a project of this scale, you need a processor that gives you absolute precision without ever compromising stability,” explains the Theater House team. “The Elite 32 Analog, in particular, allows us to set up an exceptional level of detail, giving us more control than any pre-processor we have previously used.” Its processing accuracy and flexibility enabled the team to manage the complex speaker configuration while maintaining perfect balance across all channels.
The result is a system that delivers exceptional detail, precise sound placement, and consistent performance—ensuring that even with a very high speaker count, the experience remains coherent, natural, and scalable for future upgrades.
A Fully Manual Approach to Calibration
For this project, Theater House adopted a fully manual calibration approach, using Smaart as a measurement and analysis tool to monitor system performance.
This workflow allowed them to precisely analyze phase, frequency response, and system coherence, before applying all adjustments directly within the StormAudio processor. Delays, levels, and equalization were carefully refined to ensure perfect alignment across the system.
The subwoofer array – ten units in total – was first phase-aligned to operate as a cohesive system, with only minimal EQ applied to control excessive frequencies. The mid and high-frequency channels were then aligned to match this low-frequency foundation, ensuring a consistent tonal balance.
This approach highlights the flexibility of the StormAudio platform, which seamlessly integrates with professional measurement tools while providing the precision required to implement complex calibration workflows. It allows experienced integrators to combine external analysis with internal processing, achieving highly accurate and fully tailored results.
A Cinema Designed Around the Listener
Beyond the technical execution, what truly defines this project is its personalized approach.
The system was carefully tailored to match the client’s listening habits and expectations. From the speaker selection to the final tuning, every decision was made to create a space that feels both powerful and effortless.
The result is a cinema that delivers strong, impactful bass without overwhelming the listener, combined with a smooth and cohesive soundstage. Dialogue remains clear, spatial effects are immersive, and the overall presentation feels natural—even during extended listening sessions.
The client’s reaction reflected this perfectly. They were particularly impressed by the balance of the system, noting the clarity, the immersive surround field, and the absence of listening fatigue. The experience was described as deeply satisfying, combining technical excellence with everyday usability.
Engineering Excellence, Without Compromise
For Theater House, this project represents the essence of their approach: combining engineering precision, careful system design, and deep calibration expertise to deliver a truly reference-level experience.
From overcoming architectural constraints to managing a complex, high-channel-count system, every aspect of the project was handled with a clear objective—achieving performance without compromise.
The result is a private cinema that not only meets expectations but redefines them, offering a level of immersion and precision that stands among the very best.
