When positioned in a room, speaker performance is deteriorated due to many interferences: size, shape, texture... of the room, the speaker position, the listening positioning...
All this results in a poor listening experience with loss of time alignment and a non-uniform low frequency response with so-called room modes showing peaks and holes in the frequency curve.
To correct these phenomena, only the correction of both time and frequency response of each speaker in interaction with the room can help, in addition to proper acoustic treatment.
StormOptimizer provides integrators with a set of tools tailored to correct these phenomena and optimize the speakers according to the listening room. The StormOptimizer suite equips the integrators with the necessary tools to calibrate the room acoustic response, either manually or automatically.
The StormOptimizer suite consists of:
- The automated Room Calibration is powered by the Dirac Live® room correction, which runs on a laptop, that captures the responses using a high-grade calibrated USB microphone and loads correction filters to the ISP/I.ISP processor over the network
- The manual Room Calibration is made possible by using either the integrated Sine and Pink noise generator or external signal generator, as well as the parametric EQ bank of the ISP/I.ISP.
Two dedicated high profile DSP's are integrated into the StormAudio processor to handle the StormOptimizer sophisticated features.
Dirac Live® is a patented room correction technology that not only corrects the frequency response, but also the impulse response of the loudspeakers in a room. As the most advanced room correction technology available on the market, Dirac Live is unique in that it provides true impulse response correction over a large listening area, improving the depth, the positioning and distinction of individual voices and instruments. Using multiple measurement and mixed phase correction, Dirac Live helps audio systems to create a natural, realistic and transparent sound with tighter bass and reduced room modes, in a way previously not possible.
Dirac Live Room Correction uses a high-grade microphone to analyze the room's speakers and dimensions and capture audio responses. Once assessed, sound colorations are removed and correction filters are generated and loaded into the StormAudio processor. In doing so, the room's audio system achieves substantially improved musical staging, clarity, voice intelligibility, and a deeper and tighter bass.
Dirac Live integration into our ISP and I.ISP range will come as a kit available to integrators and as a DSP runtime firmware to the product. Dirac Live will be a standard feature for all newly purchased StormAudio processors and made available as a free DSP runtime firmware upgrade to the products already installed.
External dedicated tools (microphones, laptop) capture the room's acoustic response and design a set of filters, according to the user's defined target curves and listening areas, and then load them into the processor for real-time playback.
Several response presets can be defined to meet different listening experiences, being for a movie or a concert playback for example. It is possible to define as many Dirac Live frequency response correction presets as needed for one theater, using different target curves and optimisations.
Manual EQ presets will remain definable and accessible on top of the Dirac Live correction preset.
The calibration process will be possible for each theater configured in the ISP/I.ISP, including theaters defined on the Dual Theater output.
